One of Aspen’s leading real estate developers, Rudin West Development, today announced a partnership with hotel and resort operator Auberge Resorts Collection to launch a new private residential project in Aspen. The Hotel Jerome Residences at the Mill will offer owners access to the five-star services and amenities of the iconic Hotel Jerome, Aspen’s acclaimed luxury property. Located adjacent to the hotel in Aspen, in the heart of downtown, and just blocks from the famed slopes of Ajax Mountain the new residences are located within a stunning new redbrick building, honoring the architectural heritage of its location.

The Hotel Jerome Residences at The Mill feature four one-of-a-kind pied-a-terre apartments. The two penthouses are each three bedrooms and three bathrooms spread over 2,000 square feet and include exceptional outdoor living areas totaling 1,300 square feet, which provide expansive views of Aspen Mountain, Independence Pass, Red Mountain and the Rio Grande Park. Two additional residences located on the third floor each comprising three bedrooms and three bathrooms spread over 2,000 square feet also feature generous outdoor living areas. The residences are priced between $6 million and $8.5 million. All four apartments feature direct elevator access as well as dedicated parking. An owner amenity package includes concierge, grocery and housekeeping services, ski concierge, transportation and access to the Hotel Jerome pool and gym, spa access and treatment discounts, as well as in-room dining service and preferential rates at the hotel’s F&B outlets, including Prospect and the J-Bar. Owners also receive access to Auberge Resort Collection’s reciprocity program and may opt-in to benefit from the rental reservation system.

    Design

The Mill is a design collaboration of David Johnston Architects of Aspen and Alex Papachristidis Interiors — named to Architectural Digest’s 2016 annual list of top designers, AD 100 — and Alan Orenbuch Architects, both of New York City. The building — which sits at the gateway between the downtown core of Aspen and the historic West End neighborhood — offers a traditional nod to the town’s historic Victorian era, with the south and east-facing facades complementing the adjacent Aspen luxury hotel, Hotel Jerome in brickwork and sandstone with contemporary detailing while the north and west façades of the building reflect a more contemporary style, with floor-to-ceiling windows and retractable glass doors at the penthouse level. The top-floor penthouses feature doors that open directly onto outdoor spaces, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience. The main terraces feature gracious entertaining areas and include outdoor kitchens and fireplaces surrounded by a green roof. Additionally, the two penthouse units each have a rooftop deck, accessed via spiral staircase, which offer unobstructed 360-degree views. The Mill has been designed to remain timeless while embracing Aspen’s heritage.

The residences offer a distinctly new living aesthetic for mountain-town residences, with Austrian white oak flooring and Italian Calacatta Gold marble surfaces throughout set to be expressly neutral, bright and clean. Each residence has an air of modernity, with living areas thoughtfully designed to be urban in feel, yet spacious enough for functionality. Millwork is rich with wide-profiled crown molding throughout, creating a statement of elegance. Luxury appliances packages are by Sub-Zero and Wolf and the units come equipped with a Lutron lighting system.

The Mill also features 10,000 square feet of commercial space, all of which has been leased or sold to local businesses, and four employee housing units. There is also underground parking and storage.

    Sustainability

Sustainability has become a primary feature of Rudin West Development projects, with The Mill incorporating a variety of sustainable technologies. The building is home to a 3,100 square foot green roof, the largest in Aspen, comprised of native shrubs and plants, providing a more natural surrounding in addition to adding privacy. The green roof simultaneously harvests rainwater while also creating a natural transition between outdoor living spaces and the roof, allowing for a garden-like feel and aesthetic at the penthouse level.

The building also features a geothermal heating and cooling system, which maximizes energy efficiency in addition to eliminating the need for large mechanical equipment on the roof. This creates a lower operating cost than traditional heating and cooling systems. Solar panels on the roof provide heating for the domestic hot water system throughout the building. The panels harness the energy from the sun to preheat water, minimizing the use of fossil fuels.

    Real Estate Sales

Sales interest in the residences is already strong, with the first penthouse selling ahead of official launch. The sales of the three remaining units will commence August 2016. Sales are offered through TRU Real Estate, exclusive sales broker for The Mill.

“We are delighted to partner with Auberge Resorts Collection and the Hotel Jerome to provide our buyers with amenities that have never previously been available in the downtown core,” said Michael Rudin, Managing Partner of Rudin West Development. “This collaboration is the final piece of a journey to create a truly elevated building and living experience. In developing The Mill we’ve created a testament to Aspen’s history and culture, with a building that is timeless, full of character and functions at a level of sustainability which we hope sets a standard.”

“Ownership at Hotel Jerome Residences at The Mill is a unique proposition: It’s the best of both worlds, providing residents with access to the Jerome’s acclaimed dining, spa and service as part of their Aspen lifestyle,” said Tony DiLucia, General Manager, Hotel Jerome. “We are excited to collaborate with Rudin West on what will be an exceptional homeowner experience,”

Houstonian Dan Friedkin Purchases Aspen’s Historic Hotel Jerome

HOUSTON, TEXAS (February 10, 2015) – Houstonian Dan Friedkin, through his hospitality investment company Iconic Properties, has purchased Aspen’s historic Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Resort, from Chicago-based DRW Real Estate. The purchase is part of Friedkin’s further expansion in the hospitality industry, following his 2013 investment in Auberge Resorts Collection, in which he became a majority owner and assumed the role of Chairman of the Board. Auberge will continue its management of the luxury hotel.

A Rocky Mountain icon, the 93-room Jerome completed a top-to-bottom revitalization in 2012 under DRW’s ownership and direction and re-opened as an Auberge Resort. Known since the 19th century as the social hub of Aspen, the re-envisioned hotel balances preservation and luxury with its beloved character and rich architectural details intact. Guest rooms and suites feature rich 21st century luxuries, and redesigned public spaces include Prospect, an American bistro; a relaxed new Living Room bar and lounge; a new Auberge Spa; and a refreshed look for the legendary J-Bar, an Aspen institution. First opened in 1889, the Jerome pioneered new levels of innovation and luxury at the height of Aspen’s boomtown silver-mining era and is often described as Aspen’s “crown jewel.” Hotel Jerome was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

For Friedkin, a longtime Colorado property holder, Aspen has special significance. “My family and I have enjoyed many years of visiting and owning residences in Aspen, and it’s a very special place to me personally,” he said. “I could not be more pleased to welcome Hotel Jerome into our investment portfolio. It has an enviable and storied history as a landmark American hotel, and it is most certainly one of the flagship properties of the Auberge Resorts Collection. I commend Don Wilson, the Managing Partner of DRW Real Estate, for bringing the Jerome back to glory, and I’m honored to take stewardship of the hotel ensuring it remains one of the great hotels of the United States.”

“We fully support Dan Friedkin and Auberge Resorts in this transition” said Wilson. “Under Dan’s stewardship and Auberge’s management, Hotel Jerome has a very bright future.”

The Jerome purchase supports Friedkin’s strategy to develop a world-class hotel investment brand that owns and, through Auberge Resorts Collection, operates one-of-a-kind luxury properties. On a personal front, it reflects his life-long passion for outdoor pursuits and adventure, an interest that dovetails with many of his business ventures. As Chairman and CEO of The Friedkin Group, Friedkin manages investments across a diverse array of private businesses, including entertainment, aviation, wholesale and retail automotive distribution and high-end hospitality asset development. Friedkin oversees Legendary Expeditions, a luxury adventure travel operator with access to more than 6 million acres in Tanzania. Under Friedkin’s leadership, his family directs substantial amounts of philanthropy to proven, tactical approaches in environmental stewardship, the preservation of wildlife, and community development both in their home state of Texas and internationally.

Historic Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Resort, reemerges as Aspen’s social hub with dramatic new look

Hotel Jerome Debuts Design Transformation with Historic Restoration: Updated Guest Rooms, New Signature Restaurant, Lobby Living Room, an Auberge Spa

MILL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA – Auberge Resorts has unveiled a comprehensive, four-and-a-half-month revitalization of the newest hotel in its portfolio, Aspen’s iconic Hotel Jerome. The first ski resort in the Auberge collection of distinctive properties, the Jerome has reopened in time for the winter holiday and ski season with a new restaurant, a new Living Room lobby lounge concept, and an Auberge Spa, in addition to completely revamped guest rooms.

“The re-envisioned Hotel Jerome is a perfect balance of preservation and luxury; while its beloved character and rich architectural details are intact, the interiors are now richer than they ever were,” said Tony DiLucia, General Manager of Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Resort. “We’re thrilled to be back in action – and we know that those who loved the Jerome before will be pleased with what we’ve done here.”

Interior designer Todd-Avery Lenahan of TAL-Studio, in Las Vegas, along with Aspen-based architects Rowland + Broughton, oversaw the project and preserved many of the original finishes, including the Indian rug-patterned encaustic tilework floor, balustrades and iconic pieces such as the legendary Chippendale chinoiserie bar in the famed J-Bar. Punctuating the historic furnishings is a mix of pieces from different eras and contemporary artwork.

“The new Jerome honors the past but is squarely living in the present,” said Todd –Avery Lenahan of TAL-Studio. “We’ve added a lot of paragraphs to the story that is Hotel Jerome. Guests will enjoy a rich, layered experience.”

The centerpiece for Hotel Jerome’s expansive renovation is Prospect, an upscale American bistro. The newest introduction to Aspen’s renowned culinary scene, Prospect joins Auberge Resorts’ roster of award-winning culinary destinations such as Auberge du Soleil and Solbar, both in Napa Valley. A nod to the town’s rich mining history, the 65-seat Prospect will offer hearty and diverse American dishes that are meant to be shared. Executive Chef Rob Zack will include on his menu several classic Jerome dishes using contemporary techniques; Zack’s own family recipes also will have a place on the menu. Complementing the cuisine will be a rich and varied wine program, a tribute to Auberge Resorts’ Napa Valley heritage.

New for Hotel Jerome is the lobby’s Living Room concept, a space designed for après ski, serving American tapas and small desserts, courtesy of Pastry Chef Aleece Gallagher, a local favorite. J-Bar, the rustic-casual restaurant and bar adjacent to the hotel lobby, received a light treatment in both menu and design as the local Aspen community reveres it as an institution. Zack brings back the menu favorites, such as the Jerome Burger and truffled gravy fries.

“Hotel Jerome has always been a social hub for Aspen, as well as a distinctive American icon. We kept that in mind throughout the renovation process, careful to capture the historic essence all the while ensuring that its identity as ‘the heart of Aspen’ is accurate for another 100 years,” said Eric Calderon, Chief Operating Officer, Auberge Resorts.

Hotel Jerome’s 93 guest rooms boast rich upgrades, from multi-stepped moldings, enhanced lighting and cashmere curtains to redressing the bathrooms. Clever touches, like a minibar designed as a leather campaign chest and the burnished-leather bed frames, are the standard in every room. Custom wall coverings and bespoke furniture, such as leather writing tables, will enhance the grandeur of the hotel’s already spacious guest rooms which offer views of Ajax Mountain.

The newest addition to Auberge Resorts’ collection of award-winning spas is the Auberge Spa at Hotel Jerome. Celebrating its Rocky Mountain setting, the spa’s four-part menu inspires clearing of the mind and renewal of the spirit. Skin and bodycare partners include Intraceuticals, Tara Spa Therapy, 04M, and Marie Veronique Organics’ new Pacific line, which is offered exclusively at the Auberge Spa at Hotel Jerome. Auberge Resorts’ historic hotel to undergo renovation

Four-Month Project Will Transform Guest Rooms, Revitalize Restaurant, Public Spaces And Add New Spa While Preserving Historic Character Of Aspen’s Fashionable Landmark

MILL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA – Auberge Resorts, the internationally renowned developer and operator of exceptional hotels and private clubs, announced plans for a comprehensive revitalization of Aspen’s legendary Hotel Jerome, which will close on August 1 and reopen in December, in time for the winter holidays and ski season.

The redesign of the 93-room hotel, now rebranded Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Resort, will balance authenticity and preservation with luxury, ushering in the 19th century landmark to the 21st century. The tony Jerome will reemerge as a hub for Aspen’s elite while retaining its historic essence and identity as “the heart of Aspen.”

Famed interior designer Todd-Avery Lenahan of TAL-Studio, Las Vegas, has been tapped for the project, along with Aspen-based architects Rowland + Broughton, who will oversee structural improvements. Architect Sarah Broughton, who specializes in historic preservation, sourced archival plans and photos from Aspen’s Historic Preservation Commission and conducted more than 200 hours of research to ensure historical accuracy.

“Hotel Jerome is a distinctive American icon and innovator, so we enlisted top design talent to continue its evolution and status as Aspen’s fashionable destination,” said Eric Calderon, Principal and Chief Operating Officer, Auberge Resorts. “This renovation will honor the historic integrity of the Jerome, while adding layers of craft, detail and luxury that will enhance the guest experience.”

    Public Spaces
The cornerstone of the design update will be the transformation of the hotel’s lobby and atrium, which will be returned to its original layout. Heritage pieces such as the front desk and grand fireplace will anchor the space, which will retain original details such as the Indian rug-patterned encaustic tile-work floor.

The new lobby Living Room will be open, expansive and will invite guests to meet, relax and linger over small plates and drinks from a new bar. This will be a “settle-in kind of room,” said Lenahan, “with masculine furniture that lends weight, size and substance. We’ll bring in U.S. and European pieces that are contemporary to the Jerome’s era and layer them with pieces that give a bit of modern snap.”

The hotel’s restaurant will be re-envisioned and reintroduced with rich furnishings creating multiple zones of interest in the space, from intimate banquettes to high-visibility tables and window-side seating offering mountain views. Contemporary treatments of traditional furnishings will include chestnut- and cream-colored hardwood flooring, hand-stitched leather chairs and innovative lighting creating sun-infused warmth throughout the day and a sultry ambiance in the evening. The design environment will expertly showcase the traditionally inspired yet contemporary cuisine that is Auberge Resorts’ hallmark.

A light touch will be used on the famed J-Bar, Aspen’s favorite watering hole, which will retain its treasured Chippendale chinoiserie bar. Rugged leather furniture will ensure the space retains its familiar rough-and-tumble character so loved by the bar’s numerous fans.

    Guestrooms
Hotel Jerome’s 93 guest rooms will receive rich upgrades, from multi-stepped moldings, enhanced lighting and historically inspired furnishings to updated bathrooms and modern-day luxuries. Clever touches, such as a minibar designed as a leather campaign chest, will sit below a leather-writing table, and contemporary artwork commissioned for the hotel by regional artists will hang alongside archival pieces reproduced from Aspen Historical Society collections.

    Spa
An intimate new Auberge Spa will be a stylistic departure from the rest of the hotel, with clean lines and contemporary fixtures. Three treatment rooms will offer a range of massages and skincare services tailored for those who enthusiastically engage in the wide array of Aspen’s outdoor activities.

A landmark in Aspen, the award-winning Hotel Jerome is situated in the heart of town and is often described as the town’s “crown jewel.” The hotel pioneered new levels of innovation and luxury when it opened in 1889 at the height of Aspen’s boomtown silver-mining era and continues to retain its Rocky Mountain character and identity as one of the great hotels of the American West. The hotel features 93 guest rooms offering stunning mountain views and suites. Its restaurants have earned the hotel acclaim as a culinary destination, and its popular J-Bar is lauded as an Aspen favorite. Hotel Jerome was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
